Job Description

POSITION GOAL

To perform in a responsible and accurate manner semiskilled work under the supervision of a skilled journey trades employee and all tasks geared to improving the skill and proficiency of the apprentice with the ultimate promotion to a journey trades classification.

ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Standard high school diploma or satisfactory completion of an approved General Educational Development (GED) Testing Program.
Certificate of Competency Requirements - Prior to being reclassified from Apprentice to Craftsman, effective July 1, 1993, all apprentice graduates from the Broward County School Board and/or another similar curriculum must comply with the State of Florida's respective craft certificate of competency. Apprentice graduates from other than the State of Florida programs shall be required to obtain a certificate of competency prior to employment or within the six-month grace period for their respective craft.
Must pass aptitude test administered by the Florida State Employment Service, (Job Service of Florida) prior to interview.
Must have the desire to learn the trade and possess the ambition to advance to a journey status after proper training, outside schooling, and diligent application on the job.
Must provide own hand tools.
Must have a proper Florida commercial driver's license with endorsements compatible with the assigned duties of The School Board of Broward County, Florida.
This position will include pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
Computer skills as required for the position.
