Job Description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage a developmentally appropriate and inclusive educational curriculum for young children, following Head Start Program Performance Standards, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct.
  • Conduct parent conferences within specified timelines.
  • Work with parents to set and achieve individual child goals.
  • Keep up-to-date with weekly lesson plans, progress notes, anecdotal records, and necessary paperwork.
  • Perform child screenings and assessments within the required timeframe.
  • Organize and lead bi-monthly classroom unit meetings.
  • Provide feedback for evaluating volunteers and college interns.
  • Participate actively in staff meetings, parent meetings, and in-service training sessions.
  • Assist in planning and conducting training activities, parent meetings, and workshops for associates and parents.
  • Coordinate education, training, and support for pregnant females, including prenatal education, breastfeeding information, and other health resources.

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma or equivalent. Must possess and maintain a Child Development Associate Teacher Permit. Must meet ongoing educational requirements to qualify for child development permit/CDA requirements.
  • There are pay differentials depending on the level of education the candidate has obtained - GED, AA, BA, etc.
  • Experience teaching in a preschool or infant/toddler classroom setting, which includes 50 days of 3+ hours per day within 2 year period or 12 units of Early Childhood Education.
  • Training and experience necessary to develop consistent, stable and supportive relationships with very young children; must develop knowledge of infant and toddler development, safety issues in infant and toddler child care settings (i.e., reducing the risk of SIDS).
  • Must complete California-mandated Child Abuse Reporter Training as well as Pesticide Safety Training (per Healthy Schools Act) prior to beginning work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, through oral and written skills, and work cooperatively with a variety of individuals and groups. Must relate well to children and their families and maintain a positive effect.
