Job Description

CooperDouglas has partnered with a publicly traded nationwide distribution leader to identify a Controller who will oversee financial operations and deliver strategic insight across a fast-growing business. The Controller will work closely with senior leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain strong internal controls and provide forward-looking analysis that drives growth and operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate reporting of results in full compliance with GAAP

  • Provide oversight of all core accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, revenue recognition, and operational accounting policy execution

  • Ensure accurate valuation and reporting of inventory for a diverse range of consumer products across multiple business units

  • Serve as the company’s technical accounting expert, advising senior management on GAAP, regulatory developments, and complex transactions

  • Maintain strong reconciliation processes for all intercompany transactions and ensure compliance with internal controls

  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures that support transparency, accuracy, and compliance

  • Prepare monthly reporting packages and variance analysis, translating financial results into actionable insight for management

  • Collaborate with finance and strategic planning teams to support forecasting, budgeting, and long-range financial planning

  • Partner with business leaders across the organization to provide financial insight and improve performance against objectives

  • Identify and lead process improvement initiatives to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting and close processes

  • Contribute to company-wide projects, systems initiatives, and strategic transformation efforts

  • Manage, coach, and develop accounting team members, building a high-performance team with a culture of accountability

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field

  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with leadership in corporate accounting and controllership roles within a $1B+ publicly traded company

  • Public accounting background (Big 4 or large regional firm) required

  • CPA is required

  • Deep understanding of GAAP and regulatory compliance, including inventory accounting specific to distribution operations

  • Strong working knowledge of inventory valuation, cost accounting, order fulfillment, and shipment accounting

  • Ability to lead and develop high-performing accounting teams supporting warehouse, fulfillment, and distribution operations

  • Experience identifying and driving process improvements to optimize financial accuracy, inventory tracking, and month-end close cycles

  • Exceptional communication skills and a proactive, detail-oriented mindset

Compensation range $200,000 - $260,000 + bonus!

This role is a hybrid role in the city of Pico Rivera
